Top 10 MUST SEE WrestleMania Matches

0

When it comes to WWE’s grandest stage, there is a laundry list of matches and moments that you could turn to over the soon-to-be thirty five years of WrestleMania. Myself and Justin were able to put our heads together and come up with ten must see matches in WrestleMania history. It is important to note the criteria for making this list was not just wrestling. Matches needed to have certain levels of importance, crowd involvement, and storytelling, on top of wrestling quality. Fire up your WWE Network and make sure you watch these matches while getting set for WrestleMania 35.

10. Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar (WrestleMania XIX)

This match showcased the pure wrestling talent of Brock Lesnar. We already knew how good Kurt Angle was, and let’s face it, we knew Brock could wrestle but this match set the bar even higher. Long before Suplex City was constructed, Lesnar put on classic wrestling matches.

9. Charlotte Flair vs Asuka (WrestleMania 34)

When it was announced that Charlotte Flair would be defending her Smackdown Women’s Championship against Asuka at WrestleMania 34, it was almost instantly that fans knew they’d be in for a treat. What fans didn’t know, is that the match would surpass their already high expectations, and completely steal the show.

8. The Hardy Boyz vs The Dudleyz vs Edge & Christian (WrestleMania X-7)

There really isn’t much that can be said about this match other than, it’s probably too low on the list. So many iconic moments took place during this all out war between three tag teams that wanted to showcase how great the WWE tag team division was. Edge has gone on record saying that every single time any of those teams were in the ring, their goal was to “steal the show” and that’s exactly what happened. It’s even more impressive that WrestleMania X-7 is typically heralded at the top of fans Greatest WrestleManias.

7. Ultimate Warrior vs Macho Man Randy Savage (WrestleMania VII)

An Ultimate Warrior match in a list of “must see” matches? Yes. As mentioned in the opening, wrestling quality was not the only criteria. Needless to say, this was the Ultimate Warriors best match, and honestly this was also one of Randy’s best matches as well. From the storytelling throughout the entire match, and even after the match, to the beating each man gave the other, this match is every bit of what you’d want out of a WrestleMania match.

6. Stone Cold vs The Rock (WrestleMania X-7)

With the trilogy of matches that Austin and The Rock had at WrestleMania, all of them had different elements, however X-7 ultimately got the nod for a few different reasons. At XV in 1999, The Rock hadn’t quite come into his own yet, and at XIX Austin’s body was broken down. Both of those were still good matches, but X-7 had brawling, storytelling, and Austin and McMahon working together!? Not to mention, the build up video for this match is probably the greatest of all time.

5. Bret Hart vs Owen Hart (WrestleMania X)

Sorry in advance for the music.

Often times when people think about WrestleMania X, they only remember the iconic ladder match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon, but they completely forget the absolute clinic that Bret and Owen put on to open the show. Justin and I were unanimous in wanting this match on the list, we just weren’t sure where we would end up putting it.

4. Hulk Hogan vs The Rock (WrestleMania X8)

Talk about a crowd. I still get goosebumps watching the opening of this match, 17 years later. The crowd in Toronto basically pulled a double turn on The Rock and Hogan. The stare down, panning the audience, the excitement, posing, and just overall storytelling of this match makes it not only one of the top ‘Mania matches, but one of the top must see matches of all time.

3. Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat (WrestleMania III)

Standing the test of time, dating back to 1987, Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat put on an absolute classic. Both Steamboat and Savage knew that the “money match” was Hogan vs Andre, so they took no chances. Randy and Ricky wanted to standout and show that the undercard guys were the workhorses in professional wrestling. High flying, technical holds, this match truly had it all.

2. Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker (WrestleMania 25)

What can you say about this match that hasn’t already been said? From the Heaven vs Hell entrances through all thirty incredible minutes, this match is without a shadow of a doubt one of the greatest matches of all time. The storytelling, I know I keep mentioning that, kept you on the edge of your seat. The one person that could have stopped the Undertakers WrestleMania streak would surely be Mr. WrestleMania himself, Shawn Michaels. The false finishes in this match are enough to give you heart palpitations alone. Watch this match, immediately, and then come back to see what match actually beat this one out as our top match.

1.Stone Cold vs Bret Hart (WrestleMania 13)

You get no video highlights of this match. Highlights simply don’t do it any justice because you cannot miss a moment of this one. Fire up your WWE Network and watch this. And then watch it again. Trust me, you’ll thank me for it. The double turn, the blood, brawling, crowd involvement, (dare I say) storytelling, every single aspect of this match was perfect.

Honorable Mentions (the WrestleMania number is in parentheses) that would certainly make a Top 20 list, but ultimately did not make the cut for our Top 10 list.

  • Shawn Michaels vs Kurt Angle (21)
  • Andre The Giant vs Hulk Hogan (3)
