Netherrealm- With less than a month until the release of Mortal Kombat 11, in usual fashion Kombat Kast on Netherrealm’s Twitch page, gave us another round of character reveals. On Wednesday, Liu Kang, Jax and Kung Lao were all featured on the studios stream, and this late into the reveals they did not disappoint.
Liu Kang, one of the original seven kombatants in the series is the epitome of Mortal Kombat, and was the 10th Mortal Kombat tournament victor during King Goro’s reign. Liu Kang is also the last known descendant of Kung Lao, who won the Mortal Kombat tournament nearly 500 years before Liu Kang did.
While the Shaolin Monk is one of the most recognizable characters in the game and typically a featured fighter, he has actually been killed twice and resurrected once. The first time Kang was killed off was by Quan Chi and Shang Tsung during the intro video to Deadly Alliance. Quan Chi escaped the Netherrealm and unlocked the secret of the ancient ruin stone, and discovered the undefeatable army of the Dragon King. Quan Chi and Shang Tsung were able to defeat Emperor of Outworld, Shao Khan and took a mystical portal to Earthrealm and killed Liu Kang.
In Mortal Kombat Deception, Liu Kangs body was used by an unknown force in a manner opposite of what Kang’s moral code stood for and laid many bodies to rest. By the end of Deception, Raiden was able to successfully resurrect. After a few games later, in Mortal Kombat 9, and some questionable choices by Raiden, Liu Kang was once again killed. This time, he was trying to intercept Shao Khan was merging Outworld and Earthrealm, as Raiden was allowing it to happen as he thought this would allow the Elder Gods to handle Khan now.
With backstories and different realms, Mortal Kombat 11 is certainly aiming to not disappoint on any level. With the addition of Kronika, the keeper of time, you can go back in history and play as your favorite rendition of your favorite character. Make sure you keep tuning in to the Kombast Kast every Wednesday.
