Simone Biles Dominates at World Cup

Stuttgart, Germany- It was another day at the office for US gymnast Simone Biles at the DTB Pokal World Cup, as she made her 2019 season debut. In routine fashion, Biles took home the title of “All-Around” champion. Simone was the only US gymnast at the competition and she was asked how different it is, traveling somewhere without a team. “It was kind of weird not having the girls by my side in the squad with me,” she said. “I miss them a lot. But I got through today, so hopefully if I have to go to another world cup I know I can get through.”

Despite not being at full strength earlier in the season, and not displaying her new vault on the exercise, instead, she landed a Cheng to the tune of 15.4 and possessed a full point lead after four rotations. Simone took to the uneven bars from there scoring a 14.3 on a 6.0 difficulty routine where she landed a full twisting double back dismount. There were a few less twists, than we normal would expect from Simone, but it was a very strong showing for her very first event this year.

On beam, Biles had a slight misstep on a turn but was able to regain her composure and finish strong on a 6.3 difficulty, scoring a 14.2 in total which is the only event that the she did not take first place in. Biles finished 2nd place by -0.133. After the event Simone was asked about any potential stress during her beam routine. “I stress myself out really bad and then I get really bad anxiety and then I have to tell myself, ‘It’s fine, just to take things skill by skill,’ and that really helped me.”

On floor, Simone Biles shocked and awed the jam-packed Porsche Arena as we have grown to expect. In a display that showed us her signature move, The Biles, and a double-double closing pass she posted a 14.9 after a slight step-out.

The FIG World Championship will take place in November at this very same arena, and Biles said that new things are coming, including a new floor excercise.
