Tom Brady will have one less target when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers welcome the Carolina Panthers to Raymond James Stadium. As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bucs star receiver Chris Godwin has been officially ruled out. Godwin saw the most (seven) targets from Brady, and finished with 6 receptions for 79 yards last week. A helmet-to-helmet hit late in Sunday’s game forced Godwin into the concussion protocol. Bruce Arians told reporters that the receiver didn’t show any symptoms on Monday or Tuesday; however on Wednesday the team had to take action when Godwin started showing symptoms. Arians also noted an extreme amount of caution when it came to monitoring Godwin’s status.

While Godwin will miss the game, but Mike Evans no longer has an injury designation. The Buccaneers had Evans out there – almost as a decoy – to occupy the Saints Marshon Lattimore. Last season with Jameis Winston under-center, Evans saw an average of nine targets per season. In week one, Evans only saw four targets- two of which resulted in a total of 77 yards worth of pass interference penalties.

Nine Buccaneers players saw Brady throw the ball their way in week one against the New Orleans Saints. Distribution won’t be an issue, especially with Scotty Miller and Brady connecting for 73 yards on five receptions.

It’s not panic-time just yet, however falling to 0-2 in the division to start the season creates a hole that’s hard to get out of. With the Bucs already having their game plan on the defensive side set, expect to see a healthy dose of Miller and Evans on the offensive side.
